Review: Mick Mercer

- Mick Mercer says: " It seems impossible, really it does. That Moldig is simply Giuditta Corgnati on vocals and bass with Enrico Bricco on everything else, seems so strange, unless he's a musical genius octopus? That would work, although it would limit live possibilities. Kind of post-punk pop with awesome potential, Moldig are a duo (joined by a drummer live) who doesn't sound remotely home-recorded or restrained, like many who are coming to terms with what being a duo entails. If someone told you this muscular, tuneful album was a well traveled band youâ€™d believe it, because these are the songs The Cardigans never had the style to imagine, and they come at you from different areas of modern Indie noise but with melodic depth, which obviously aids accessibility, but there are regular tiny corruptions, so nothing is commercially bland.." Despite having heard a mere handful of numbers by Italian post-punk band Moldig, I knew straightaway that they were something special. After several compilation appearances, including one on our very own Notes From the New Underground series, Moldig have just released their self-titled debut in November of this year, and what a stunning debut it is! http://www.post-punk.com

Review: Brad Middleton for RemoteGoat

....Italian indie rock outfit Moldig are however a far better proposition. .... I get hints of Patti Smith, but a more direct, less arty take on what has made her a legend, The Smiths, particularly in the guitar work, U2, when the guitarist really lets rip and shows how virtuoso he can be and My Bloody Valentine in the sublime way the vocals are delivered. A lovely all encompassing sound that is maybe a bit dated but is which means they are definitely a good band http://www.remotegoat.co.uk

the beguiling singer and bassists Giuditta's vocals brought to mind the low register of Echobelly's Sonya and the ethereal moments of the Cocteau Twins, while the bass heavy rock they produce brings to mind one of the bands influences 'the editors' amongst others.
